From a Mudroom to a “Pet-Friendly Bathroom”

Pets are fascinated by people bathrooms for some reason. Why not distract them with a pet-friendly “bathroom?”

We all love our adorable little furry friends so much. To some, they are as important to them as a kid would be. That’s why we want to make our homes as comfortable for them as possible. While a pet can’t use a bathroom on its own, it still usually must make use of the bathroom design through the occasional bath or grooming. Plus, they always seem to want to follow us inside, even when they ignore you for a while. Want to show your pet some appreciation? Here’s how to convert your mudroom into a pet-friendly bathroom.

Think of the Mudroom

Firstly, you probably want to keep your pet out of the actual bathroom. Pets, dogs especially, often like to drink from toilets when they are thirsty, which is not good for their health. Therefore, it’s not a good idea to make your actual bathroom pet-friendly. But, consider making your mudroom into a pet-friendly “bathroom” so that they can have their own space to play (and hopefully stay out of the actual bathroom.)

Pet-Friendly Bathroom with a Pet Shower Area

Are you sick and tired of cleaning pet hair and dander out of the drain of your own shower or bathtub? A mudroom is a great place to install a pet shower for bathing. This appliance is specifically made for cleaning and grooming dogs and outdoor cats. It’s basically set up like a mini-walk-in shower, complete with plumbing and a hose. You can use this area to clean your dogs and cats with ease versus dragging them into the human-sized bathtub or shower. Plus, if placed in the mudroom, you won’t have to worry about them tracking in any unwanted mud or dirt into the house itself.

Preventative Measures

If you convert your mudroom into a pet-friendly bathroom, then you’ll likely never need to worry about them bothering you in your own bathroom, and also keep them occupied if you ever decide to partake in a full bathroom remodel. Pets really seem to be fascinated by toilets, so why not invest in a pet water bubbler? The water not only will be circulated to keep out bacteria growth, but it also simulates a running toilet which many pets enjoy. Have cats? Consider placing the litter box in the mudroom so it really will be more like a pet-friendly bathroom.

Change Up the Floors

If you are considering switching your mudroom to a pet-friendly bathroom, then you might want to consider switching the floors as well. Pets are not so great with hardwood or laminate floors, so a tile that is sturdy, scratch, and slip-resistant is the best choice for the mudroom’s new purpose.
