Remodeling a bathroom is an exciting project for any home. When you begin to dream about and plan your bathroom remodel, the biggest goal and idea is probably to have a relaxing, spa-like atmosphere where you can unwind and pamper yourself. For many homeowners, this means doing away with the bathtub in favor of luxury showers. Here are four trends to inspire you.

Steam Showers

One of the most relaxing aspects of a spa is the steam room, and you can now incorporate this into your bathroom remodel. Existing walk-in showers can be modified to become steam showers, but this is not a DIY project. It takes specialized knowledge of the plumbing and equipment needed, as well as the ability to change out the ceiling for a material and angle that won’t allow steam to condense and drip down. The shower also needs to have a full glass enclosure to trap the steam. There are also modular steam showers available that you can add to your bathroom remodel as a complete package.

Wet Rooms

If you are remodeling the entire room, a wet room is a great luxury bathroom trend to consider. This style does away with all shower doors and curtains. Instead, the shower is open directly into the (waterproofed) bathroom. This allows easy access to the shower (especially for people with mobility concerns). If you have a large bathroom, consider installing heaters over and around the shower area so it stays cozy.

Specialty Shower Heads, Lighting, and Audio

Specialty equipment is another way to increase the luxury feel of your new bathroom. Some popular items include monsoon or rainfall showerheads, that install overhead to simulate the feeling of standing in the rain. Other options include custom lighting and audio features that allow you to listen to your music or podcasts and set the mood lighting within the shower.

Vertical Spas

The pinnacle of luxury shower systems is the vertical spa, a walk-in shower with multiple showerheads and jets. Often they include both a handheld showerhead and a wall-mounted one, which is sometimes a rainfall style shower head. Jetted shower fixtures are installed in the wall to provide water massage as you’re standing there. Many vertical spas actually include two side jet setups so that you can get pampered from all sides of the shower can accommodate two people. Another upgrade you can consider for your vertical spa is a thermostatic valve that allows you to precisely set and maintain the water temperature.
